Building a Culture of Inclusion
Classcraft, through its parent company HMH, is dedicated to fostering a culture of inclusion that celebrates diversity in all its forms. HMH's commitment to supporting the success of all students starts in the workplace, where diverse demographics, geographies, and perspectives are embraced. By attracting, hiring, and retaining diverse talent, HMH creates an inclusive environment that encourages meaningful conversations and interactions among its employees. This culture of inclusion serves as the foundation for the development of products and services that cater to the diverse needs of educators and students.
Equity & Inclusion in Practice
HMH's Equity and Inclusion Office plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the curriculum programs and services provided exemplify a holistic understanding of the world and honor the diverse communities they serve. Led by Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer Benita Flucker, the office upholds the belief that all students and educators have the right to walk into a classroom without feeling othered. Through initiatives like the Content Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (CEID) pledge, HMH strives to reflect diversity in its offerings, represent experiences equitably, uphold the highest standards, conduct thorough reviews of materials, and remain open to learning and growth.
Promoting Employee Engagement
HMH's Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) provide employees with platforms to support personal development, strengthen the company culture, and advocate for equity and inclusion. These groups, such as HMH AccessAbilities, HMH Black Alliance, HMH Pride, and more, work towards enhancing awareness and inclusivity within HMH. Additionally, the Equity Advisory Council for Learning (EACL) collaborates with education experts and advocates to ensure equity in K–12 curriculum, while the Innovation for Equity (IFE) initiative, spearheaded by HMH, aims to improve outcomes for Black learners and elevate Black leadership in education.
Supplier Diversity and Advocacy
HMH's Supplier Diversity Program underscores the company's commitment to supporting small and diverse businesses, fostering partnerships with historically underrepresented groups, and eliminating barriers to inclusion. By embracing a culture that values diversity in all aspects of its operations, HMH actively champions equity and inclusion not only within its organization but also through external partnerships and engagements.
