Understanding Clay Credits
Clay credits are the virtual currency used to acquire various data points and actions within the Clay platform. The cost of a data point or action can vary based on the provider and the specific data being accessed. While most actions are free or have a minimal credit cost, certain data points like mobile phone numbers can be more expensive, ranging from 2 to 25 credits depending on the provider.
Finding Credit Costs for Data Points
In the Clay enrichment panel, the credit cost for each action is displayed on the far right with a green bubble icon. This visual indicator provides clarity on the credit cost associated with each data point or action, helping users make informed decisions.
Checking Credit Spend for Tables
Currently, Clay does not offer automatic table-specific credit spend reports. However, users can access higher-level analytics by right-clicking on a column and selecting 'Run Info' to view a summary of the credits spent on that column to date. Clay only charges credits for data points that incur costs for access or utilization.
Free Actions in Clay
Clay does not charge credits for actions that involve data cleaning or formatting, external CRM connections, or Emailers (on the Pro Plan). Credit charges apply primarily to data points requiring payment for access, such as company revenue, LinkedIn profiles, phone numbers, and contact research. Users with their API keys for certain data providers can access corresponding actions in Clay at no additional cost.
Prospecting with Clay
While Clay charges credits for data enrichment, prospecting activities like targeting accounts or leads from various sources such as Google Maps, GitHub, CRM tools, and web scraping are free. LinkedIn prospecting has a search cap that is increased on the Pro plan and further enhanced on the Enterprise plan.
Estimating Clay Credit Requirements
Users can utilize the credit calculator on Clay's website to estimate the number of credits required to run campaigns each month. By inputting the desired number of companies to target, leads to reach, and data points to enrich, users can determine the monthly credit needs and explore the recommended plan for their activities.
