Empowering EV Owners: EnergyHub and Wallbox Integration for Managed Charging Programs

Expanding Access to Utility Programs

EnergyHub and Wallbox have joined forces to make utility programs for EV managed charging easily accessible to Wallbox customers throughout North America. By integrating Wallbox EV chargers with EnergyHub's platform, more devices are now eligible to participate in active and passive managed charging programs. This collaboration comes at a time when the demand for residential charging solutions is on the rise, with 80 percent of all EV charging taking place at home, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Managed charging programs enable utilities to efficiently manage EV charging load, protect distribution assets, and address load growth, while providing customers with incentives to participate.

Benefits for Utility Clients and Customers

Matt Johnson, VP of Business Development at EnergyHub, views the partnership with Wallbox as a significant step in providing utilities with access to a wide ecosystem of device partners. This integration brings immediate benefits to utility clients and their customers who wish to utilize Wallbox chargers in managed charging programs, contributing to a more reliable and decarbonized energy system. Fred Turner, Senior Director of Wallbox NA, highlights the importance of smart capabilities for EV chargers in the home, recognizing that EV charging predominantly occurs in residential settings. Integrations like this one offer financial and environmental advantages to both customers and utilities during the transition to electric mobility.

Enrollment and Cost Reduction

EnergyHub and Wallbox plan to enroll Wallbox devices in utility programs starting in August. Through a combination of utility rebates and program incentives, Wallbox customers can notably decrease the upfront and ongoing costs associated with EV charger ownership. EnergyHub reports that four out of five customers participating in utility programs acquired their level 2 EV charger specifically for program enrollment. This demonstrates the appeal and benefits of engaging in managed charging initiatives that offer both financial savings and environmental rewards.

Driving Towards a Sustainable Future

As an independent subsidiary of Alarm.com, EnergyHub is at the forefront of providing grid-edge flexibility and supporting the expansion of smart energy solutions. The collaboration between EnergyHub and Wallbox not only facilitates access to utility programs for EV owners but also contributes to building a more reliable and environmentally friendly energy system. By empowering EV owners with the tools and incentives to participate in managed charging programs, this partnership paves the way for a sustainable energy future while ensuring the efficient management of EV charging loads.
