Guidelines and Policies at the Intrepid Museum

Visitor Entries and Belongings

When entering the Intrepid Museum, all bags, backpacks, and camera cases will be inspected. Remember that bag and coat check facilities are not available, so ensure to keep your belongings with you at all times. Strollers, large bags, and luggage are not allowed in certain areas like the submarine or Concorde.

Dress Code and Attire

Visitors must adhere to the proper attire guidelines set by Museum personnel. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times, and it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Avoid items that can get caught, open-toed sandals, or too heavy bags for a pleasant experience. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also suggested.

Behavioral Restrictions

Displaying profane, obscene, or injurious language on clothing is prohibited. Additionally, costumes or masks, touching exhibits, and engaging in performances are not allowed. Visitors should refrain from using any drugs or weapons, as well as exhibiting offensive, abusive, or threatening behavior.

Photography and Accessibility

Visitors are welcome to take personal pictures with handheld cameras and flash. However, selfie sticks, professional equipment, video cameras, and other devices require prior written approval. For accessibility, ensure compliance with height and age requirements for certain experiences. The Museum provides gender-specific restrooms and accommodates personal wheelchairs but does not offer public-use wheelchairs.

Prohibited Items and Activities

Certain items and activities are strictly prohibited within the Museum premises. These include pets, remote-controlled aircraft, smoking, vandalism, indecent exposure, creating media events without approval, open fires, and offensive language or behavior. The Museum has the right to remove individuals engaging in unacceptable behavior.

Safety Measures and Guidelines

For safety reasons, running within the Museum or on the pier is prohibited, and children must be supervised at all times. Strollers are permitted in most areas, but carrying children on shoulders is not allowed. Visitors are advised to follow eating and drinking regulations, use designated seating areas, and avoid creating disruptions or performances.
