The Partnership
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), a prominent shipping company with a history of over 60 years, has partnered with Nautilus in their commitment to green and technology-driven growth in the maritime industry. EPS, based in Singapore, operates a fleet of more than 150 vessels across various segments. Their dedication to sustainability is evident through their Environmental, Social & Governance Policy. Starting in February 2019, EPS deployed Nautilus Platform on six of their vessels to reduce fuel waste and enhance sustainability. Impressed with the initial results, EPS expanded the software solution across their wider fleet by November 2019. Nautilus joined EPS's Accelerator program powered by Techstars, reflecting a shared vision for a sustainable future in ocean shipping.
Why Nautilus?
EPS chose Nautilus for their advanced capabilities in providing a comprehensive, real-time information source for transparent and collaborative decision-making. The solution enabled EPS teams to make data-driven decisions on voyage operations swiftly. By leveraging Nautilus, EPS aimed to enhance voyage outcomes based on a detailed performance understanding of their fleet. Through a single source of truth, EPS teams communicated seamlessly to optimize vessel performance not just for profit but also for reduced emissions and fuel wastage. Claus Nehmzow, Chief Innovation Officer at EPS, expressed pride in partnering with Nautilus as a step towards driving sustainability in ocean shipping.
By the Numbers
The results of EPS leveraging Nautilus were impressive: a 4% increase in TCE uplift, saving 30.5 metric tons of fuel which equates to $43,000 in net fuel cost savings, and a reduction of 95 metric tons of CO2 emissions. This reduction is equivalent to taking 21 cars off the road for an entire year. In just 46 days, EPS successfully reduced fuel consumption and improved TCE rates on a single voyage, showcasing the immediate impact of Nautilus solutions.
Nautilus Voyage Optimization
Nautilus's Voyage Optimization module considers all meteorological and oceanographic conditions that a vessel may encounter along a route to predict their impact on fuel consumption and vessel speed. The solution integrates with weather-routing providers' API to access pre-voyage routes and update them mid-voyage. Nautilus's Client Success Team collaborates with clients to input waypoints directly into the Voyage Planning tool, enhancing current and future voyages. By combining weather-based optimizations with machine-learning performance models, Nautilus ensures a comprehensive approach to enhance voyage outcomes in alignment with commercial goals.
